Facts and Figures
Almost 80 percent of cardiac arrests occur at home and are witnessed by a family member.
Less than 5 percent of sudden cardiac arrest victims survive because the vast majority of those witnessing the arrest are people who do not know how to perform CPR.
Although the average age of sudden cardiac arrest victims is 63, unintentional choking and suffocation is the leading cause of all injury deaths for infants under the age of 1. Also, there are approximately 1,900 to 14,200 pediatric out-of-hospital cardiac arrests annually due to all causes (including trauma, sudden infant death syndrome, respiratory causes, cardiovascular causes, and submersion).
