Lifeguarding Fall 2009 Schedule
All Courses take place in Yon Hall Rm. 271 unless directed otherwise during time of registration.
The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Course is to teach lifeguard candidates the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. The UF CPR & Safety Training Center offers a series of lifeguard classes throughout the spring and summer.
Previous participants have used this program to seek aquatic jobs on campus, and others have explored lifeguarding opportunities at local YMCA’s, summer camps, country clubs or aquatic facilities near their home. It is the responsibility of each student to make sure they can attend each class. The course hours vary depending on the course that you take.
Lifeguarding (15+ years old)
American Red Cross Lifeguarding is ideal for people who want to work at traditional pools. The course teaches professionalism, patron and facility surveillance, victim recognition, equipment-based rescues, and caring for head, neck and back injuries.
- Course Length: 32 hours
- Certifications:Lifeguarding/First Aid (3 years), CPR/AED for Lifeguards (1 year)
Waterfront Lifeguearding (15+ yeras old)
American Red Corss Waterfront Lifeguarding is ideal for people who want to work at non-surf, open-water environments such as lakes and rivers. as well as traiditonal pools. The course teaches professionalism, patron and cavillity surveillance, rescue board techniques, emergency preparedness and more.
- Course Length: 37 hours.
- Certifications: Lifeguarding/Waterfront/First Aid (3 years), CPR/AED for Lifeguards (1 year)
