Heartsaver CPR is designed to teach all lay rescuers, those who have no medical background, CPR and relief of a foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO). The heartsaver CPR course is dedicated to teaching warning signs of a heart attack, cardiac arrest, stroke and choking.
An automated external defibrillator, or AED, is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses the potentially life threatening cardiac arrhythmias of ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia in a patient, and is able to treat them through defibrillation, the application of electrical therapy which stops the arrhythmia, allowing the heart to reestablish an effective rhythm. Chances of survival out-of-hospital with an AED are 45 percent, compared to less than 10 percent without an AED. AEDs have been installed in airports, malls, golf courses, and other public places.
First aid is the provision of initial care for an illness or injury. It is usually performed by a lay person to a sick or injured casualty until definitive medical treatment can be accessed. It generally consists of a series of simple and, in some cases, potentially life-saving techniques that an individual can be trained to perform with minimal equipment.
Course Length: 8 hours
